Fuel hoses for vehicles

The wide application of petrol and its sub products in different areas of the economy has led to the introduction of different innovations and standards, in order for its use to be safe and effective. Fuels are highly flammable substances, which require a choice of quality hose that is compatible with the individual needs of the client.

Fuel hoses are used for the distribution of fuel between the individual parts of the fuel system of the vehicle or for loading fuel from external tank. They are made from reinforced rubber or composite plastic resistant to bending and cracking. Metal clamps have been incorporated in order to ensure the tight seal of the fuel hoses, preventing leakages. The materials used in the manufacture of the fuel hoses prevent electric charge accumulation and lower the risk of combustion.

  • Light Motor Vehicles/Cars – the main considerations about the use of this type of hoses are about the limited space in the corpus of the car, where the engine and the fuel system are situated. This requires the use of shorter hoses with smaller diameter, which have to withstand high temperatures and pressure.
  • Trucks – trucks consume more fuel per time unit and their comparatively large size allows the use of hoses with larger diameter.
  • Industrial machines – most of them have internal combustion engines that are powered by fuel, for example equipment in agriculture, engineering, etc.

These machines possess a high rate fuel consumption and can use different types of fuel. The fuel hoses have to be durable to stress while supplying enough fuel at the same time.

Fuel hoses most often consist of three layers. The inner tube is made from rubber resistant to the fuel ingredients. One of the most widely spread materials is the NBR rubber. It is used in the manufacture of the fuel hoses FUEL 580-216 and FUEL OIL 2A. This material allows the fuel hoses to withstand temperatures from -40⁰C to 80-90⁰C. Those models are used for transferring gasoline, diesel, gas and ethanol fuels. In addition the NBR rubber is suitable for the distribution of fuel, due to  being a non-conductor. The anti-static properties of this material help for lowering the risk of sparks and combustion.

The middle layer is the reinforcement and the strength it provides depends on the hose exposure to external mechanical influences and stress. For more moderate stress the model FUEL 580-216 is recommended. It may be used in automobiles running on diesel or gasoline. If a greater endurance to pressure is necessary, the use of FUEL OIL 2A is recommended. Its synthetic textile reinforcement withstands pulling and twisting.

The third, protective layer serves to protect the hose from external influences of the environment. FUEL 580-216 has an outer rubber layer that can withstand temperatures up to 100⁰ C, as well as oils, etc. When the equipment is exposed to more severe influences like ozone, abrasion, flames or oils, the model FUEL OIL 2A is recommended. Its protective layer contains CR rubber, which provides the best protection.

Another way this type of DexyFlex hoses can be used is in diesel cars, where draining the excess diesel while injecting the engine with fuel is required. In this case it is necessary to include a hose for implementing a Spill-Return system, which returns the unused diesel back to the car tank. These hoses can be made of just one layer low endurance rubber, like our standard hose model for Spill-Return systems. It is used for the distribution of air, oils, petrol and diesel fuel. The hose may have reinforcement like the model Cotton Oil B. This model is made from a better quality rubber  – NBR rubber and is used for the distribution of oils, liquid fuels, gasoline, etc.

The fuel hoses are available with diameters from 3,2 mm to 16 mm for FUEL 580-216 and 3,2 – 16 mm for FUEL OIL 2A, depending on the hoses’ intended use.
